AI within film and photography.

It's the end of 2023, and I wanted to check in to see where we are in the development of photorealistic AI when it comes to creating photography and video from scratch. In this test, I used Midjourney for the stills and Runway to add motion to the stills. But I also recommend trying out Pika.

You can download my Midjourney images and try out free versions of Runway and Pika to play around yourself. Download.

Still images created in Midjourney were then brought inside Runway to add motion.

Looking back at 2023 from an AI perspective, I believe that still images, in the realm of real-life photography, are already well-established, as evident in publications like this.
Of course, they are still oriented towards beauty in look and feel, which is why I think that car commercial photography also kind of works.

Additionally, I've noticed that agency briefs increasingly incorporate AI-generated images. One potential concern here is that the allure and compelling nature of these images may lead projects, particularly those with tighter budgets, to have even less potential to fulfill the vision that these AI-generated beauty images promise.

Also, much like how clients sometimes remark, 'But you can make a film on your iPhone,' they are simultaneously correct and mistaken. As AI continues to evolve, I anticipate clients making similar remarks about AI. We shall see!

The primary motivation behind conducting this test was video. It's the video feature that I am closely monitoring because achieving impeccable video output can revolutionize everything from the ground up. While we haven't reached that point yet, the potential is undoubtedly evident.
